he complete book with text by Gustave Flaubert, illustrated with 21 original drypoint etchings, 11 of them full-page, including a portrait of Gustave Flaubert, all by Edgar Chahine. This deluxe edition comes with extras: 1) additional suite of 21 hors-texte drypoints; 2) additional suite of 21 hors-texte drypoints with remarques; 3) four additional etchings, each in 3 states, only included in the deluxe edition (the total number of etchings is 75, 65 of them hors-texte, some signed in the plate); 4) an original color-enhanced pencil drawing of a nude, signed by Chahine in pencil; 5) one original copper plate (cuivre) for one of the etchings. 121 pages in French, all loose sheets, in publsher's wrappers and handsome sollander box by Ann Repp; overall size without the box 13.75 x 11 in. (35 x 28 cm). Pale dampstain on the right corner of several plates in the suites, otherwise in very good condition. Edgar Chahine was an excellent French painter and illustrator of Armenian descent.
